Unfortunately, it seems to limit party size to two characters, which is unfortunate. This game has good basic mechanics (although the spell casting interface is too slow for the combat mechanics). Also, I find the game to "scripted" to a story line, and the dual dragon encounter is impossible.
Then my computer broke. I played it for days and days. On the contrary, it was even better. I had just finished Baldur's Gate 2, and then I found out that Neverwinter Nights was by the same people. Everyone must play this before they die. In middle school, it was more or less the only thing I did after school.
I was shocked that a game could have as rich of a community as this one. I remember when I bought this game at its launch. I begged my mom to take me to the store to get it. I bought this edition 2 years later, and I wasn't expecting it to be as good as I remembered.
I qualify him excellent. It is really a very amusing game. in Amazon it is of everything, that is also very excellent.
Neverwinter Nights will not run properly on Vista, and the Atari support site offers no advice whatsoever to deal with it.I have located alternative sites with advice, but the troubleshooting methods are extensive, highly technical at times, and tedious. I was not anticipating a problem. I still have to watch 100% of the intro movie every time, or the game crashes. Limited backwards compatibility experienced with other gaming programs does not apply to Neverwinter Nights. The product works with Vista, but the installation and boot-up overhead are annoying. I know this is supposed to be the Windows XP version and I'm running Vista, but I've run lots of other older software on Vista.
Internet help will suggest a line edit to the.ini file that suppresses the intro movie, but when I did this the opening menu became unresponsive. Do not bother with Neverwinter Nights if your only PC is running Windows Vista. I'll believe other reviews that this was a great game and the Diamond edition is a great bargain - only if you're still running Windows XP.I noticed all the 1-star reviews for problems with CD keys, but I also found technical help for how to deal with incorrect keys. EDIT: I got the software to work after about 3-1/2 hours of trying to find and apply the right patches.
I had to download and apply Atari's Critical Rebuild 1.69 Patch ( http://nwn.bioware.com/support/patch_english_hotu.html) and set the game to "Run as Administrator". Until NWN hit the shelves, my favs were Eye of the Behold I, the Baldur's Gate series, and the Icewind Dale series.
Hopefully you will enjoy as much as I do. Add to the fact that with the Aurora Toolset (comes with NWN) I can create my own playable content and share it with others.
Neverwinter reminded me of the days when I played it as an online game by SSI & AOL. Can't beat the price and will keep you busy for some time to come. The graphics and sound are very good by today's demanding standards and makes good use of the D&D rule set which I think was version 3.x at the time.
* NOTE *Windows Vista owners: make sure you have all of your Windows patches in place and that you are using current hardware drivers. You may have to make other setting changes depending on your PC's hardware and software.I have enjoyed playing Dungeons & Dragons since the early 80's and have often been disappointed by some of the games released for the D&D franchise.
So in this package you not only get the base game, you get the 2 expansion games, plus the 3rd premium expansion which in itself contains 3 games, and the Aurora Toolset.
